Koforidua, June 12, GNA - The Eastern Regional Police Command has warned taxi drivers in Accra to be cautious when hired to the Eastern Region to avoid their vehicles from being snatched by armed robbers. The police explained that, for the past six months, it had recorded the snatching of 16 taxi cabs hired from Accra to parts of the Eastern Region at gun points on Sundays and in the night.

This was contained in a press release issued by the Regional Police Command at Koforidua, on Friday, and copied to the Ghana News Agency. The release said the areas notorious for such robberies were New Tafo, Kukurantumi and the Asuboni Rails area, off the Nkawkaw main road. The Police said eight of the vehicles, which were stolen, were registered this year, four were registered last year and the remaining four were registered two years ago, an indication that the car snatchers preferred new vehicles.

The Police, therefore, appealed to taxi drivers to avoid the mentioned routes at odd hours and urged those who suffer such attacks to immediately report to the nearest police barrier or police station to enable the police to take the necessary steps to arrest the culprits. The release urged drivers facing attacks to call the Police Regional Emergency line of 0342022569 for support.
