Policeman jailed for "fingering" girl

Accra, Jan. 4, GNA - A Circuit Court in Accra on Wednesday sentenced General Lance Corporal Selasi Steve Ahlija to three years imprisonment for indecently assaulting a nine-year-old pupil.

However, he was discharged on the charge of defilement by the court presided over Mrs Justice Georgina Mensah-Datsa.

Police Chief Inspector I.A.A. Ahor said the complainant was a trader and mother to the victim.

The complainant and victim reside at Teshie in Accra, while the convict resides in the same area.

Chief Insp. Ahor said the convict was the complainant’s friend and usually visited the complainant at her shop where she sells assorted drinks.

On December 24, 2010, at about 0010 hours, the convict visited the complainant at her shop and led the victim into his BMW car and drove off.

Chief Insp Ahor said Ahlija bought the victim vita milk, took her into his room and had sex with her.

On victim’s return, the prosecution said, the complainant noticed sudden changes in the way the victim walked and she (the victim) complained of abdominal pains.

Chief Insp Ahor when the victim was quizzed, she said Ahlija inserted her finger into her private part .

A report was made to the Police and Ahlija was arrested and the victim was issued with a medical form to enable her undergo examination and treatment.
