Navrongo (UER), Jan. 8, GNA - A police officer on guard duties at the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), on Friday night allegedly shot and killed a 40 year-old businessman instantly for resisting arrest. Victor Bellego, the deceased according to eyewitnesses, went to the premises of the Bank and warned the police officer to stop dating his friend's wife to avoid any embarrassment.
The police officer became furious and asked the deceased to leave the bank's premises or be shot.
The deceased then allegedly attempted to disarm the police officer, who resisted and the quarrel attracted many people to scene. Another police officer, who was on duty at the Naara Rural Bank, close to the Commercial bank came to the scene, called at the charge office for two other police officers who came and tried to drag the deceased to the charge office.
During the ensuing struggle, the officer who was at post at the commercial Bank opened fire and allegedly shot and killed Victor instantly about 50 metres away from the bank and the four police officers took to their heels to the charge office. The police action infuriated the youth who later mobilized to attack the police station but the timely intervention of Mr Braimah Sanjage, an Assemblyman for Namolo/Saboro electoral Area and Alhaji Abdulai Bawa, Regional Chairmn of the NPP saved the situation.
