The Member of Parliament of Ketu North, Edem Agbana, has emphasised the importance of policymakers, legislators, and key stakeholders in improving educational outcomes to align with the rapidly changing demands of the digital age.

In a statement issued on January 24, 2025, to mark the International Day of Education, he affirmed the critical role education plays in transforming communities.

“Today, as the world marks the International Day of Education under the theme ‘AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,’ we are reminded of the critical role education plays in preparing our communities for a rapidly evolving technological world.

"Education is not just the foundation of progress but also the key to empowering individuals to navigate and influence the advancements shaping our future,” he noted.

He pointed out that the job landscape is changing rapidly, making it essential for young people to engage with digital technologies.

“The Future of Jobs report for 2025 indicates that the job landscape is evolving. Therefore, it is crucial to incorporate ICT and its associated technologies into our curriculum as we seek to prepare our students for future employment opportunities.

“As policymakers, legislators, and leaders of our communities, we have a duty to ensure that we improve our educational outcomes in line with the rapidly evolving demands of this digital age," he stated.

Edem Agbana reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that no child in his constituency is left behind in the ongoing digital transformation.

“At Ketu North, we are committed to ensuring that no child is left behind in this digital transformation. This commitment is reflected in our ‘Computer for All Schools’ project, which seeks to bridge the digital divide by equipping schools with the technology and tools necessary for 21st-century learning. In a world increasingly driven by artificial intelligence and automation, access to technology is not a privilege but a necessity. Through this initiative, we are empowering our students to embrace technology while preserving their creativity, critical thinking, and humanity,” he stated.

He pledged to continue working with various stakeholders to improve education in Ketu North.

“As we reflect on this year’s theme, I pledge to continue working with stakeholders to ensure that our educational systems in Ketu North foster innovation while prioritising the human values and agency that define us,” he added.

The International Day of Education is observed annually on January 24 to highlight the role of education in promoting peace and development.

The day emphasises the importance of education in achieving global goals such as eradicating poverty, reducing inequality, and promoting sustainable development.
