Polio immunization exercise in La-Nkwantanang-Madina

The Polio Immunization took off successfully as scheduled on Thursday within the La-Nkwantang-Madina Municipal Assembly.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Municipal Assembly, Mr. Franklin Anku told parents and guardians who had brought their children under five years of age for immunization at the Kelekele Park, that due climate change, a lot of illnesses have emerged hence the need for immunization.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) the Municipal Health Director of the Assembly, Ms. Priscilla Anima Siaw said the Polio immunization was being carried out simultaneously throughout the whole country beginning on 18th to 20th September.

She said last year the municipality targeted a population of 28,515 but was able to achieve 27,628 children.

She therefore advised parents and guardians to ensure that their children under age zero to five years were immunized.

Madam Siaw said the municipality has targeted 29,094 children to vaccinate and therefore her outfit has sent out staff from the Polyclinic including volunteers to visit nursery schools, market places, and households among others for the vaccination programme.

She also noted that the Global Poliomyelitis Eradication Initiative which started in 1988 had reduced the polio to 99 per cent eradication with only one per cent more to win the fight.

She intimated that since 2003 Ghana has not recorded any polio the country.
