The Electoral Commission (EC) on Wednesday organized a capacity building workshop in Bolgatanga for political parties in the Upper East Region.

The workshop which was supported by the Department for International Development (DFID) and KAB Governance Consult (KGC), is part of activities to be rolled-out by the Electoral Commission to ensure active and quality participation in the December Elections.

It was on the theme, “Enhancing the credibility of the 2012 elections.”

The Upper East Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Bruce Ayisi said following the success of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) exercise and the subsequent mop-up, the EC would undertake a nationwide exhibition of the provisional voters register, a quality assurance mechanism of the registration process.

He expressed concern about electoral conflicts and called for efforts by all stakeholders to prevent electoral violence.

Mr. Amadu Sulley, Deputy Chairman in charge of Finance and Accounts and EC Member responsible for the Upper East Region, said ensuring free and fair elections was the collective responsibility of all.

Asked if the EC would undertake the Biometric Registration Exercise in the Akurugu Dabo area in the Region, where the residents boycotted the exercise, he said the issue was pending before the courts and the Commission was ready to undertake the exercise after the case had been decided.**
