Worawora (V/R), Dec. 7, GNA -Seven people have been arrested in connection with a shooting incident at Kwamekrom in the Volta Region on Monday as the death toll rose to two.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Moses Mr Segu, Worawora District Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday that the situation had since been brought under control with the deployment of Police from Alavanyo.

A Police source, who preferred anonymity, said he had received information from Dr Kwabena Adjei, outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for Biakoye, that he received a report from the Volta Regional Hospital at Ho that one of those wounded in the shooting incident had died.

Mr Segu, however, said he could not confirm the report although he had also heard the news.

He said the discharge from the gun were pellets indicating that they were fired from locally made shotgun.

Throwing more light on the incident, the Police District Commander said youth from Nkonya wanted to present a petition to the District Chief Executive at Jasikan about allegations of vote rigging by some people at Kwamekrom.

Instead of proceeding to Jasiksan, however, they decided to demonstrate at Kwamekrom and in the process attacked the house of Mr Lawson Aful, Campaign Manager of Mr Kwasi Owusu Yeboah, Volta Regional Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Biakoye Constituency.

Mr Segu said it was during the demonstration that gunmen fired into the riotous youth killing one on the spot and injuring others.
