Politicians should not misuse state power

Mr. Ben Baluri Sayibu, a legal practitioner in Tamale cautioned political office holders to desist from using their positions to "behave as if state power is their personal property".

He said Ghana is a country of freedom and justice where the ordinary citizen matters and that, this can be achieved when the people know their rights and responsibilities.

Mr. Sayibu was addressing the closing session of a 11-day workshop at Tamale, which was organised by the Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT), in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

It was to translate the abridged version of the constitution into 24 Ghanaian languages.

Some of the languages include Gonja, Buli, Dagbani, Kasem, Farafara, Sissali, Valga, Basari and Nawuri.

Mr Sayibu called on the people to uphold and defend the constitution at all times.

Mr. Issa Abdulai Nasagri, Northern Regional Director of the NCCE, appealed to GILLBT to incorporate conflict resolution into their training workshops.

He called for professional training programmes for its literacy translators.

Mr Ben Bukari Salifu, Northern Regional Minister, commended all those who helped in translating the constitution, which he said, is in line with the government's policy to bring literacy and education to every citizen.

He commended GILLBT for improving the quality of human resource base of the country.
