Politicians stalling Public Office Holders’ Bill are the biggest culprits - Domelevo

Former Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo, has lamented about the widespread conflict of interest among public officials in Ghana.

He attributed the persistent conflict of interest issues to delays in passing the Conduct of Public Officeholders Bill.

His comments come in the wake of the Airbus Scandal, where Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, identified former President John Dramani Mahama as “Government Official 1,” though no evidence of corruption was found against him in a deal facilitated by his brother, Foster Adams Mahama.

The scandal is part of a larger investigation that saw the United Kingdom’s Serious Fraud Office fine Airbus SE €3.9 billion for bribery in aircraft sales to 13 countries, including Ghana.

In an interview, he pointed out that politicians, who are often the main perpetrators, have shown little commitment to advancing the bill.

“I believe that the reason that bill is not going through is because the people who are supposed to facilitate that bill know that they are the highest or the biggest culprits,” Domelevo stated, a report by citinewsroom.com said.

He emphasized that the bill is crucial for addressing issues like nepotism and unethical business practices among public officials.
