A Former presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Most Reverend Titus Awotwi Pratt, has stated that people especially politicians who benefit the most from the state by way of high salaries, fringe benefits, official accommodation, chauffeur-driven cars, tend to steal the most from the country.

The Most Rev. Awotwi Pratt, who was speaking at the one-year anniversary thanksgiving service of the Consolidated Bank of Ghana (CBG) in Accra, observed that because the country’s security agencies are filled with avowed members of the ruling government, these “thieves” are not even arrested.

“Look at our security agencies, puppets of the ruling government and so they are not able to open their mouth, even arrest thieves who ride public cars and are fed by the state. People who earn more and better way of salary and free/fringe benefits, occupying official houses with chauffeur driven cars, benefits come in thousands, they steal the most in the country,” the Bishop stressed.

He further bemoaned how those who have committed minor crimes such as stealing fowls and goats rather get imprisoned or remanded while those who “openly steal and plunder walk our streets” free.

“Go to civilized countries, certain positions, people are there because of their merit, not appointed by politicians and they work and serve well. Look at our security agencies, puppets of the ruling government and so they are not able to open their mouth, even arrest thieves who ride public cars and are fed by the state”, he said.

Many people on social media have supported his observations, praising him for having spoken truth to power.
