Polytechnic Students Reject New Academic Grading System

The Country’s Polytechnic Students say they are averse to the new academic grading system introduced by the National Accreditation Board for Professional and Technical Examinations-NABTEX. The Board however explains that the new grading system is aimed at establishing a permanent mechanism for assessing students in all Polytechnics.

Eventhough the students have expressed their displeasure at the introduction of the new system, they have not given any indication of rebelling against the new grading system, as was the case at the University of Cape-Coast.

Under the new system, Polytechnics now peg the pass mark at 50 –percent and 90- Percent for a grade A Plus.

The pass mark was previously 40percent and 80- percent for a grade A Plus. President of the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) Boakye Asiamah in an interview flawed the new grading sytem saying it cannot be the best.

Executive-Secretary of the National Accredtation Board for Professional and Technical Examinations, Ben Antwi says the results of first year students are currently being collated to facilitate an assessment of their performance under the new grading system. He said the Performance of of students is improving significantly.
