The rector of Ho Polytechnic, Prof. Emmanuel Kojo Sakyi has underscored the important role polytechnic education plays in the development of competent human resource base for the country and urged young people desirous of acquiring tertiary education to consider the polytechnic education as an equal choice.

He bemoaned the widely held perception that, polytechnic education is inferior to other forms of tertiary education and called on young people to do away with such perceptions in their minds.

Speaking at the institution’s 23rd matriculation ceremony, Prof. Sakyi said “polytechnic education is not for mediocre people... If you are a mediocre person, you cannot make your way through the system. Those who go through the system cannot end up joining the unemployed graduates association, because of the kind of training they receive here.”

He therefore entreated the 1,279 fresh students to make good use of the opportunity to acquire the appropriate knowledge and skills training relevant to the job market.

The rector also noted that, challenges associated with the academic progression of polytechnic graduates will be eliminated when the conversion of polytechnics into technical universities is completed, as the polytechnics will be in a position to award their own degrees.
