Polytechnic students appeal to President to intervene in strike

Tamale, Nov. 8, GNA - The National Secretariat of the Professional Marketers Association of Ghana Students (PROMAGS) has appealed to President John Evans Mills to intervene in the strike of the polytechnic teachers.

They have also called on the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take positive steps towards getting the teachers back to the classroom to restore academic activities to prevent the schools from being closed down.

The PROMAGS made these appeal in a statement issued in Tamale and signed by its National President, Mr Bashiru Issahaku. PROMAGS said it had no faith in the current talks and negotiations taking place and were therefore making a direct appeal to the President to intervene and find an amicable solution to the problems facing their teachers.

The students said the government should take pragmatic and realistic steps to address the grievances of their teachers to end the frustrations and sufferings they were going through on the various campuses.

They said in trying to build a democratic society, it was very important and necessary to ensure the participation of all actors and players in the economy to give inspiration and hope to the people. "It was good to listen to UTAG but it will be better if government listens to POTAG as well". PROMAGS said students of the polytechnics were currently at the receiving end of the strike and appealed to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to streamline the remuneration of the polytechnic teachers. 08 Nov 10
