Accra, Sept. 20, GNA - The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) on Tuesday identified poor media relations as a major cause of the party's abysmal performance in general elections after 1979.

"Politicking and electioneering in modern technological world does not depend only on mounting huge campaign platforms, distribution of party paraphernalia and wooing of electorates with commodities but the potent usage of the media," Mr Kabutey Tettegah leading member of the CPP Youth Affairs committee stated at a press conference in Accra. The Press Conference forms activities to herald the 96th birthday celebration of the founder of the nation, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, which falls on Wednesday September 21.

He disclosed that the youth Affairs Committee, which is under the function National Executive Committee have mapped-up strategies to enhance the party's media relations, marketing and advertising methodologies and attraction of the youth into the Nkrumaist fold. Mr J. B. Daniels, Chairman of the Youth Affairs Committee said the ideals Dr. Nkrumah, guaranteed the conditions for the development of the entire nation, irrespective of tribe, religion and status. "That is why it becomes apparent for the children of poor workers of this country in the era of his administration to go to school free with qualitative tuition.

"Medical treatment under Nkrumah's administration was not for the rich, all were given good healthcare but now the rich get the best in the healthcare system, while the underprivileged gets the poorest treatment," he noted.

Mr Daniels said, "it is time for national leaders to focus on how to increase the housing stock, improve the health of our people create jobs, improve access to education ad generally make life more bearable for all Ghanaians.

"It is indeed sad that on the occasion of the birthday of Nkrumah, Ghana's textile industries have virtually collapsed with the attendant job loses, rice industry is in a comma and there are fears that utility tariffs and petroleum prices would jump up in the next couple of months."

Mr. Daniels said the CPP is the only political party with the capacity to mobilize the masses to resolve the multi dimensional problems confronting the nation.
