The ongoing voters registration exercise for persons who have attained the legal voting age of 18 to provide them the opportunity to their names on the electoral roll.
And also, to enable them exercise their franchise has come with negative reactions from applicants in the Asante-Akim South Constituency.
Ghana News Agency visited some of the registration centres in Asante-Akim South Constituency, and these centres have had below 20 applicants registered; two days since the exercise commenced.
Some of the visited registration centres included Obogu Central Hall, which had only 14 applicants who had gone through the registration as at mid-day on Tuesday, August 5, 2014.
The situation of low turnout for registration worsened when the GNA team visited Banso East which had just 7 new applicants registered.
By what means, the Banso West record book had increased by 15 applicant’s names as well as the Obogu West electoral roll record book had increased by 27.
However, the patronage at Obogu D/A JHS was quite encouraging with 64 new voters having registered during the period GNA’s team visited.
Registration officials and political party agents who spoke to GNA apportioned the not too impressive registration turn out blame on low publicity of the ongoing exercise.
According to a political agent, Mr. Afrifa Blankson, they did not anticipate any problems and that the registration equipment, were functioning perfectly.
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. De-graft Forkuoh, has expressed satisfaction with the smooth and peaceful manner things had gone and urged the party agents to continue to abide by the rules.
