Kumasi, Jan 01, GNA - Fifty parishioners of the Saint Paul Catholic Church at Amakom in Kumasi were on Sunday honoured by Pope Benedict XVI for their meritorious services towards evangelism and promotion of the Catholic faith.

The members were drawn from Amakom, Ayeduase, Apirede, Anwomaso, Asokwa, Kentinkrono and Deduako that form the parish.

Presenting a certificate of honour signed by the Pope, the Most Reverend Gabriel Justice Anokye, Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese, congratulated the award winners for their dedication and services and urged them not to relent.

Bishop Anokye called on Christians to let the blessings that comes during Christmas linger on throughout the New Year.

He attributed the high incidence of social vices on broken homes and single parenthood that had exposed the youth to peer pressure. Bishop Anokye appealed to the Catholic population in the country to lead the crusade against social vices.

Mr Thomas Boamah, President of the Parish Pastoral Council, thanked the Pope and pledged to work harder to uplift the Catholic Church in the country. 01 Jan 07
