Porter on 50 million cedis bail for threat of death

Cape Coast, March 17, GNA - For allegedly threatening to stab his colleague porter Joshua Korankye to death with a knife, Kofi Danquah, 26, was on Friday granted 50 million cedis bail with a surety to be justified by a circuit court at Cape Coast.

He pleaded not guilty, to threat of death and would reappear on Wednesday April 5.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Klufio, told the court presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah, that both Korankye and Danquah were porters, as well as friends, and operate at the market at Nyakomasi-Ahenkro.

He said on March 14 this year, the police had information that Danquah and some others were engaged in "nefarious activities" at the market and went there to ascertain. One of the suspects, mentioned Danquah as the person engaged in such acts, but that he had escaped. He alleged that later in the day, Danquah learnt of the police's arrival in the market and suspected Korankye of having informed them that he (Danquah) was the one engaged in the nefarious activities, and began threatening his life.

Chief Inspector Klufio also alleged that last Thursday at dawn, Danquah "cunningly" entered Korankye's house, opened his window and peeped to see if he was there, but unknown to him, he had changed the position of his bed and was closely watching him.

He said as a result, Danquah left when he did not find Korankye in the room and returned around 0700 hrs threatening that he "would kill him, by stabbing him to death with a knife" for giving the police information about him.
