Accra - The Ghana Post Company Limited has paid an initial total dividend of ?200 million to the government from its ?2.7 billion net profit made for 1998.

The chairman of the company's Board, Col. Ibrahim Abdulai, who disclosed this at the annual review conference in Kumasi, last week, stressed the need for the workers to generate enough revenue for the smooth conduct of its operations and administration as a corporate body.

Col. Abdulai pointed out that the company would tackle low productivity, waste and embezzlements in the ensuing years.

The acting managing director, Mr. Isaac Adu Boahene, said Ghana Post intends to add value to its services by computerising some of the main counters. He disclosed further that the company had taken delivery of 12 vehicles, including 10 vans, at a total cost of Pounds170,796 to improve upon its services.

The company, Adu Boahene said, paid ?413 million, the equivalent of Pounds85,398, as part payment, under an agreement with Vodi Technik Motors Ltd.

The MD said the vans would be distributed among the 10 regions under phase one of its restructuring exercise. The company, according to Adu Boahene, will consider catering for other special functions under the second phase.
