Accra (Legon), May 11, GNA - Examinations scheduled for Wednesday evening on the University of Ghana campus have to be cancelled as a result of power outage. The Acting Director of Academic Directorate, Mr. Enoch A. Amartey said he was concerned about the power outage that occurred to disrupt the examinations.
He said since the students had seen the questions before the power outage, a new set of questions would be set for the eight papers that have been cancelled.
The eight papers are:
INFS 404 - Marketing of Information Services,
COMP 206 - Data Structures,
FREN 318 - Professional French II,
BIOCHEM 414 - Immunology and Immunochemistry,
SOCI 308 - Poverty and Rural Development,
SOWK 406 - Administration, Management and Evaluation,
FLAW 446 - Commercial Law II (Agency & Banking) and
PHIL 404 - Theories of Justice.
Mr. Amartey told the GNA in an interview that the University of Ghana had purchased four generators for some of the large examination centres to operate during power outages.
The Acting Director explained that it was unfortunate that at the time that the examination was in progress, the examination officials were going about their duties when the power outage suddenly occurred and they were unable to quickly operate the generators because of the heavy downpour.
Mr. Amartey said he was personally at one of the centres- N Block, when some of the officials were making frantic efforts to fix one of the generators but had problems. The examinations were cancelled following on the recommendations of the Chief Invigilators.
Many students have expressed concern about the situation citing the mental torture they would have to go through preparing for fresh examinations.
