Pray for sustenance of peace-Majority Leader

Accra, Jan 16, GNA - Mr. Felix Owusu Adjepong, Majority Leader of Parliament on Sunday asked Ghanaians to continue to pray for the sustenance of peace in the country so to enable the Government to turn the fortunes of the nation around in its second term.

He said: "Government knows the expectations of the people are high in this second term. That is why human resource development is a major issue on this government's agenda and with the help of the Lord, we shall be able to succeed."

Speaking on behalf of President John Agyekum Kufuor at a National Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service in Accra, Mr Adjepong attributed Ghana's electoral victory to the believe of the people in God and urged Ghanaians to continue to trust in God for Him to continue to favour us.

Mr. Adjepong commended the organizers of the programme, namely, the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), the Ghana Pentecostal Council (GPC), the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACCC) and the Multimedia Broadcasting Company for bringing the people together to celebrate God's goodness.

The theme for the service was: "Ebenezer, Thus Far Has the Lord Brought Us." It brought together Christians from all over the country to celebrate the benevolence of God and pray for continuos divine favour upon Ghana.

The Reverend Ekow Badu Woode, General Secretary of the GPC said the programme was also put together to thank God for a peaceful elections and swearing-in ceremony that had strengthened the democratic structures of the country.

"We may belong to different political structures with different ways of interpreting the national political agenda of the nation. Yet still, we are one nation, one people with one land, one common destiny, one government, one Parliament and one President", Rev Woode said. He noted that as Ghanaians we have more in common that unite us than divide us and urged all to work together in unity, reconciliation, and peace.

Rev. Woode asked the Church in Ghana to contribute towards the efforts of the government to send relief to the recent victims of the Asian tsunamis disaster.
