Presby Church Rejects Criticisms

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has noted with concern the increasing criticism of the church by heads of institutions built by the church, who complain that it is not adequately supporting those institutions.

The church therefore warned that it will not countenance any attempt to play down the efforts made by the church in establishing such institutions.

The Moderator of the Church, the Rt. Reverend Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso, gave the warning during the opening of a two- day workshop for Presbytery Di-rectors, Unit and Development Mana-gers of the Department of Development and Social Services of the church at Abokobi in the Ga East District on Wednesday.

The workshop, which brought together over 200 officers of the church countrywide, was under the theme: "Intra-departmental networking for effective delivery of social services".

The Moderator particularly mentioned heads of the church’s educational institu-tions who he said sometimes hide behind old students to condemn the church for not supporting their schools.

"In the first place, who built those schools so that the old students have been produced and if we do not sign your letters as heads, your appoint-ment cannot take effect", he added.

Rev. Dr. Frimpong-Manso emphasised that even government, which is a major supporter of the schools, recognises the role that the church plays in the smooth running of the schools.

"You must not lose sight of the fact that some missionaries and members of the church, through sacrifices have toiled to put these institutions in their basic forms. They provided quality services and by dint of hard work the institutions gained recognition from both community and government because of the impact of the church," he stressed.

He, therefore, appealed to the heads of such institutions to support the church in its quest to make the partnership it has with the government and its overseas Christian friends more beneficial.

The Clerk of the General Assembly of the church, Rev. Herbert Anim-Opong, who chaired the function, said the church would continue to assist society in every way possible to make their lives better.
