Presby Church proposes 1% income levy for church

Kadjebi-Asato (V/R), Aug. 28, GNA-Congregations of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P.) Church Ghana might soon have to pay one percent of their annual incomes as levy to finance its future development plan. "I propose this as a matter of urgency", the Moderator of the Church Right Reverend Dr Livingstone Buama told the opening session of the Church's 64 synod at Kadjebi-Asato under the theme, "Breaking New Grounds".

"As a Church, we need to break new grounds in our endeavours and in the execution of our projects and programmes," he said.

Rt. Rev. Buama said the church would have to put an end to its "dependency syndrome" to be able to confront new demands and challenges and deal with the constraints of the time.

In a fraternal message, the Bremen Mission Board, the Church's partner Church in Germany indicated that from 2007 the Board would reduce its support to its African partner churches.

According to Bremen Mission Board, the tasks confronting the Church in general, was increasing while the means of meeting those tasks was reducing.

According to the message the economic conditions globally have forced it to reduce "our pastoral strength."

That not withstanding, the message said the partner Churches would continue to provide whatever support they could marshal in support of each other.

In a message delivered by its General Secretary, Rt. Rev, Dr. Setri Nyomi, the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC) expressed the level of co-operation between the E.P. Church and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and urged both churches to explore "ways in mission."
