Presbyterians asked to be committed to ideals of the church

Kumasi, March 3, GNA - The Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has organised a day's workshop to build the capacity of Ministers, Presbyters and Catechists of the church.

Dubbed: "New Year School" it was held under the theme: "Let us rise up and build - the way forward after 18 decades of existence as a church." Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church, expressed worry about the decline of evangelism in the church. He said in addition members are idle, indiscipline, and ignorant showing disregard for the church's tenets. He added that infrastructure wise, little had been done for the Church.

Right Rev. Frimpong-Manso said it was important for Presbyterians to cherish selfless and dedicated service in the missionary work in order to transform society.

He advised Church members to shun activities and lifestyles that were not in conformity with the church's beliefs and practices. Rt. Rev Frimpong-Manso asked the church to help to promote education, employable training and health outreach programmes to enhance the physical well being of people.

The Moderator said they would use the celebration of 182 years of Presbyterianism to campaign vigorously to bring back "the Presbyterian discipline" which he noted, had gone down considerably in recent times. Rev. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery, called on the participants to work hard to put into practice what they were taught at the workshop.
