Presec Old Boys celebrate Homecoming

The Old Boys Association of the Legon Presbyterian Secondary School (PRESEC) dubbed "Odadees" pledged to pay the Academic User fees for students of the school who win the National Best Student Award and enter any of the country's Universities.

Mr. Kwesi Afriyie Badu, General Secretary of the Association made this known at the opening of the "Millennium Homecoming" celebration of the Old Boys in Accra. The Homecoming brings together the past students to renew acquaintances and to pool resources to meet some of the needs of their alma mater. Mr Badu said the decision to pick up the academic user fee follows the first Students and Teachers Excellence Awards ceremony last August to encourage both students and teachers to give of their best at all times.

Mr Joseph J. Asare, Headmaster of the School said PRESEC, established in 1938 has achieved excellent academic results over the years adding that the 1999 National and Regional Best Teacher Awards were won by teachers of the school while four students won the millennium excellence awards. He said the school has started a computer literacy programme with 22 computers donated by the Parent/ Teacher Association to ensure that each student becomes computer literate.

Despite these achievements, he said, the school faces numerous problems prominent among which is staff accommodation. Out of the 95 teachers only 30 are housed in the school. Some of them reside as far as Nsawam. Mr Asare therefore welcomed the initiative by the old boys in instituting the homecoming celebration to renew their commitment to the school and to help find solution to its problems.

David Anim-Addo, President of the association called on the members to contribute their widow's mite to help the school attain higher standards saying "the school cannot achieve much without our help.''
