The Registrar of the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, Kingsley Agyemang, has highlighted the transformative impact of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision for free and affordable education.

Agyemang recalled the president's call in 2008 to mobilize all resources and segments of the population to support free basic education.

"Although Ghanaians did not accept the bid at the first and second attempt, today we are here as beneficiaries enjoying a tuition-free education, tutored at the highest secondary level and cared for by social interventions," he stated while delivering his speech at the 63rd Speech and Prize Giving Day at the Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary.

He emphasized that the president’s belief that education is key to a nation’s development has been the driving force behind the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) educational policy.

Agyemang pointed out that the Free SHS policy has set the stage for increased stakeholder participation, particularly at the community level.

"Community members are sensitized and educated on the importance of education and education policies, taking measures to assist in providing and monitoring educational facilities and activities," he said.

He further noted that stakeholder participation in basic education has been bolstered by the Education Act 778 of 2008, introduced during the tenure of President John Agyekum Kufuor.

The Act defines stakeholders in education to include development partners, the Ghana Education Service (GES), district assemblies, district education offices, teachers, school management committees, chiefs and elders, and parent-teacher associations.

Each stakeholder group is assigned specific roles and responsibilities at various levels; national, regional, district, and school-community.
