Accra, Oct 3, GNA - President J. A. Kufuor this afternoon arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for two-day official visit.
According to a statement signed by Mr Andrew Awuni, Press Secretary to the President and Presidential Spokesman, the President was met on arrival by the Ethiopian Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Glimar Birru and Chairman of the African Union Commission, Mr Alpha Omar Konare as well as some members of the Ethiopian Government.
President Kufuor is to meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany on Thursday for consultations after which both leaders will address the Permanent Representatives of the AU Commission at the Union's Headquarters.
President Kufuor, who is also the Chairman of the AU is in Ethiopia for high level consultations with AU Commission on several urgent matters, including the recent attacks on members of the AU Peacekeeping Force in the Darfur Region of Sudan.
The President would also meet with his Ethiopian counterpart Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and the Ethiopian President, Girma Woldegiorgis on Friday for bilateral talks.
The meeting comes barely four months after the G-8 Summit in Heilegendamm, Germany, where Africa's progress was a key agenda. The two leaders are expected to discuss among other things development assistance to the continent and the peaceful resolution of conflicts in the Region including the humanitarian crisis in the Sudan Darfur area.
They would also meet with the AU Commission and the Permanent Representatives to the AU President Kufuor, who arrived in the Ethiopian Capital on Wednesday, would prior to the talks with Chancellor Merkel meet with the AU Commision's President, Alpha Konare.
His other engagements would involve bilateral talks with Ethipian Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi and Mr Girma Woldegiorgis, President of Ethiopia.
President Kufuor, who is accompanied by senior Government Officials returns home on Friday. 03 Oct. 07
