Hohoe, Sept 30, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday inaugurated the 1.4 billion-cedis furnished Administration Block for the Hohoe District to climax his three-day official tour of the Volta Region.

''The block is monumental for the decentralization of governance. Ghana has suffered too long from over centralisation in Accra and the new administration block will show the people that decentralization is taking roots in Ghana.''

President Kufuor told the people to see the block ''as government at their doorsteps'' and to use it efficiently taking into account the strategic positioning of Hohoe.

On the issue of the municipality President Kufuor said the government would consider it when Hohoe satisfies all conditions. On the Alavanyo-Nkonya conflict the President said the National Security Council had been involved in attempts at finding a permanent solution.

Togbega Gabusu, Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area, said the block would promote efficient administration of the district. He appealed to the government to upgrade the district into a municipality due to its positioning as the commercial hub of the region and transit for people from the northern and southern parts of the country.
