President Kufuor inaugurates roads at Breman Brakwa

Breman Brakwa (C/R) Aug. 13 GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor on Friday inaugurated the Breman Brakwa town roads, in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa district of the Central Region, rehabilitated at the cost of 6.5 billion cedis.

The 7.5-kilometre bituminous surfacing roads comprised the five-kilometre Breman Brakwa-Mahogo road rehabilitated at the cost of 3.7 billion cedis and the 2.5-kilometre Breman Kokoso-Ogonaso junction road repaired at 2.8 billion cedis.

Works on the roads that were financed through HIPC funds began in July last year and were completed in February this year.

President Kufuor who was in the region on a five-day official tour addressed a durbar of chiefs and people of Breman Brakwa.

He said there was the need to improve roads to facilitate the production of cocoa and boost agriculture in general in the area. President Kufuor pledge the government's determination to continue with its rural sector development programme to open up the rural areas for investment, establishment of cottage industries to create employment for the youth and the provision of potable water and improved health care delivery for the people.

He expressed appreciation of the government to the people in the Central Region for their massive support and voting for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to retain it in power.

President Kufuor said Ghanaians returned the NPP government to power because of their confidence in its policies and programmes for the country's socio-economic development.

Mr Andrew Kwaku Anning, a retired Educationist and spokesman for the people, appealed to the government to rehabilitate the remaining 12-kilometre Mahogo-Odoben stretch of road that was in a deplorable state.

He also called on the government to establish a Technical/Vocational Institute in the area, to absorb the many junior secondary school graduates in the area.

Mr Anning appealed to the Ministry of Health post technicians to the local health centre to man the equipment that were lying idle to help improve health care delivery in the area.
