President Kufuor leaves for AU summit

President John Agyekum Kufuor left Accra, on Sunday for Addis Ababa to attend the first extra ordinary summit of the African Union.

Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Daniel Osei, Ghana's High Commissioner to United Kingdom and Mr Kwabena Agyapong, Government Spokesperson accompanied him.

Speaking to newsmen, Mr Agyapong said leaders who would be attending the two-day summit, the first since the formation of the African Union in South Africa, last year would discuss the proposed amendment to the Constitutive Act of Union.

They would also assess the situation in Cote d'Ivoire, Burundi,Central Africa Republic, Liberia and Democratic Republic of Congo as well as the economic state of the continent, NEPAD, Good Governance and strengthening democracy.

Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, the First Lady, Madam Theresa, Ministers and the Chief of Staff Office of the President, Mr Kwame Mpianim, saw the President off.
