President Kufuor thanks the Lord for a second term

Accra, Dec. 12, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor, flanked by his wife, Ministers of state and party functionaries on Sunday attended a thanksgiving church service at the Christ the King Parish to thank the Lord for a peaceful elections, and for granting the New Patriotic Party a second four-year term in office.

Party functionaries and church members, who stood outside the parish auditorium received President Kufuor and his entourage with jubilation amidst songs of praise and cheers before the start of the church service at 1030hours.

Mr. J. H Mensah, Senior Minister, Mr. Yaw Osafo Marfo, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning and Deputy Minister of the Interior, Mr Thomas Broni were among state officials, who attended the service.

Mr George Aggudey, Flagbearer of the Convention People's Party (CPP) joined the church service after the President was seated and met Dr Edmund Delle, Chairman of the CPP who had earlier on taken his seat. The two joined the President to give thanks to the Lord.

Leading the Eucharist, The Very Reverend Dr. Monsignor Seth Agyeman, General Secretary of the National Catholic Secretariat thanked the Lord for the peace enjoyed during the elections.

He said even though all parties adopted various strategies to seek the mandate of the people yet it was only one, which won. He said, "it does not mean that those who did not win should destroy the winner.

"We should all as one people, with a common purpose carry the nation forward, work together for the good of the country and the Lord.

"The greatest politicians are those who find time for the people, especially those at the grassroots level", Very Rev. Dr. Msgr. Agyeman said.

The Very Rev. Stephen Adu-Kawning, the Parish Priest congratulated the President on behalf of the parish members for his second term in office and expressed the hope that real "Positive Change" would be felt by Ghanaians in the next four years.

President Kufuor in a brief interview with the media outside the chapel expressed his gratitude to Ghanaians for demonstrating to the whole world their maturity, which had kept Ghana's democracy a step forward.

"It's a good thing that Ghanaians know and appreciate that the changing of government is through the thumb and ballot box and this shows that our democracy is being deepened".
