President Leaves India

President John Agyekum Kufuor has left Mumbai, India to London enroute to Ghana at the end of his four-day state visit to India. The visit, which was in search of investment opportunities and partnership for Ghanaian companies and individuals took him to New Delhi, Agra, Calcutta, Bangalore and Mumbai. He held meetings with the Indian President Dr A.P.J. Kalam, the Prime Minister Mr Atal Bahari Vajpayee, investors and businessmen in all the towns he visited.

President Kufuor and the Indian Prime Minister witnessed the signing of four protocol agreements between them in the fields of telecommunications, private sector, culture and foreign relations.

The President has been criticized for leaving the country at a time when the district level elections, which has been described as the bane of the country’s elections were being held. He left Accra on July 26, and has already paid a state visit to Malaysia and attended the Global 2000-Smart Partnership International Dialogue, which was held in Langkawi.

President Kufuor's entourage include his wife Theresa; Hackman Owusu Agyemang, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Felix Owusu Agyapong, Minister of Communications and Technology; Kwamena Bartels, Minister of Private Sector Development and acting Minister for Tourism.

Others are Nana Otuo Siribour II, Juabenhene and Member of the Council of State; Mrs Elizabeth Villars, President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and the Private Enterprises Foundation (PEF), Dr Charles Mensah, Resident Director of VALCO; Ishmeal Yamson, Chairman of Unilever, Ghana and Mr Mac Manu, Managing Director of Macal Tyres Company Limited.
