Bernard Bediako Baidoo is Member of Parliament for Akwatia
The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, has called on public officials to exercise humility and accountability, reminding them that no office in Ghana’s governance system is beyond scrutiny.
Speaking on The Verdict with Isaac Addae, Baidoo noted that even the President is subject to constitutional checks, including impeachment, and that leaders must always act responsibly.
“It’s all good so that when you’re given an office to serve the people, you know you’re not absolute,” he said. “At the end of the day, even if the President himself can be impeached, then you should know that someday, somebody may put your actions before the entire nation. So let’s be careful.”
His comments come following a petition to remove the Electoral Commission’s (EC) leadership and composition over alleged incompetence and cronyism.
Lawyer Baidoo clarified that the President does not personally intervene in matters regarding the EC, stressing that petitions are typically forwarded to the Chief Justice for constitutional handling.
“The President will not even look at it,” he explained.
“The President will just push it to the Chief Justice. The President has better things to do, honestly. Let me put it bluntly: the President is fixing the economy and doing things to improve the lives of ordinary Ghanaians. He is not interested in who becomes the EC. If someone brings a petition, he says, ‘Give it to the Chief Justice.’ That, the President will do.”
He urged leaders across government to focus on service delivery rather than personalities, emphasising that public office is ultimately about serving the people, not consolidating power.
