Julius Debrah is the Chief of Staff
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has mentioned that President John Dramani Mahama is a big admirer of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba.
He described the relationship between the president and the music legend as one that went beyond the public eye and carried a great connection.
Julius Debrah made the statement when the family of Daddy Lumba paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House on August 25, 2025 to officially inform government of the singer’s passing, in line with traditional protocols.

The visit also provided an opportunity for the two sides to begin discussions about funeral arrangements and the possible role of the state in honouring the music legend.
According to the Chief of Staff, it was common to see the president sing along to Lumba’s songs whenever he was in his car
“The President loved Daddy Lumba’s songs. When he sits in his car and sings along, you’d be amazed. I can’t sing like that, so you can see there was a special connection,” he said.

Julius Debrah also noted that Daddy Lumba’s influence was national in scope. He said the singer’s songs carried emotions that spoke to people regardless of their situation in life.
“His songs touched all of us, whether we were sad or happy. Daddy Lumba made a lasting impact,” he noted.
He further assured the bereaved family that the state recognised the late musician’s contribution to Ghana’s cultural heritage and would ensure that his legacy is properly honoured.
“We can’t say we won’t honour him, especially considering how well he honoured Ghana with his music. As a government, we will support the family in this difficult time,” he emphasised.
