President John Dramani Mahama has traveled to Bawku in the Upper East Region.
This marks President Mahama's first visit to the conflict-torn township since assuming office on January 7, 2025.
Before his departure on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, President Mahama held a high-level security meeting with the heads of various security agencies.
In a communique posted on Facebook by the Jubilee House announcing his travel, Acting Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that the president’s aims to engage with leaders, conflicting factions, and major stakeholders.
The statement further emphasised that the visit is intended to foster dialogue in pursuit of lasting peace in Bawku.
“President John Dramani Mahama is visiting Bawku and Nalerigu today, Tuesday, 14th January 2025. The President is determined to resolve the decades-old conflict in Bawku and will use the visit to engage the conflict factions and key stakeholders to promote dialogue to achieve lasting peace,” the post read.
Mahama will return to Accra on January 14, 2025 after concluding his visit.
