President Mahama receives new German Ambassador to Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday stated that Ghana’s relations with Germany since 1961 has been instrumental in the socio-Economic Development of the country.

He said:”In the fields of governance and trade balance, Ghana and Germany have enjoyed a lot of good relations.

“Ghana exports 29 per cent of her goods to Germany and imports 10per cent from Germany and our relations have been very cordial and tremendous.”

President Mahama stated this when he received Mrs Renate Astrid Scimkoreit, new German Ambassador to Ghana who was at the Castle to present her diplomatic credentials to President Mahama.

President Mahama said the technical cooperation that existed between the two countries since 1961 had impacted positively on the Ghanaian economy and government would continue collaborate with other partners to ensure more economic development.

He said the financial support from the German government over the years was in the region of one billion Euros and hoped that more collaboration could raise the figure higher in future.

The President commended the German government for supporting Ghana’s governance development through Frederich Ebert Foundation and other governance-related organizations in the country.

Mrs Schimkoreit congratulated President Mahama for winning the 2012 general election and pledged the support of the German government to Ghana to in the succeeding years.

She said Ghana was becoming a middle income country and therefore needed some support to achieve that status and promised that the German government would collaborate with Ghana in her pursuit of development.
