The Ashanti Regional Minister Mr John Alexander Ackon has dismissed claims that the president has disregarded the judiciary in exercising article 72 of 1992 by granting remission to the Montie trio.

He believes the Judges who sat on the case exercised their mandate and so has the president done, emphasizing that they are no conflicts in the discharge of the duties between the two.

“The judges did their work and the president has done his and that is final”, he said.

He stated that President Mahama still holds the judiciary in high esteem and will not do anything to undermine their authority especially when he has on several platforms advocated for the citizens to respect various state institutions.

Speaking on the Abusua Nkomo hosted by Kwme Adinkra, the minister wondered why some critics are making minced meat out of the whole remission when it is enshrined in the constitution.

“The president did not pardon them, he granted them remission and that was not done in isolation…. He took the decision in consultation with the Council of State. Even though the sentence was harsh, the trio showed appreciable remorse and therefore their remission is in order”, he said.
