President John Dramani Mahama is expected to pick up forms at the headquarters of the National Democratic Congress today (Thursday) to file his nomination for the flagbearship slot of the party.
General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu-Nketsia, last month revealed that after a thorough deliberation by the National Executive Committee following the demise of President Mills, the party decided to put up President Mahama as the sole candidate to be endorsed by the Congress on August 31st.
XYZ News’ Kwame Danso Acheampong who is at the party headquarters near Nkrumah Circle reports that the Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia told the media that even though nominations have been opened, it is only President Mahama who is expected to pick up the forms.
In line with the extraordinary congress to take place in Kumasi where the president will be endorsed, he is required by the NDC constitution to pick up forms and file his nomination to be endorsed by congress.
As part of the requirement, he is expected to get endorsement from delegates across the country.
The decision to endorse President Mahama as the sole candidate has however been criticized by a former Attorney General and member of the party, Martin Amidu.
