Accra, June 16th, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills returned home Wednesday morning from South Africa, after witnessing the first match of the Black Stars of Ghana in the ongoing 2010 World Cup tournament. He was accompanied by some government officials.
Speaking to journalists on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, President Mills said he was very proud of the Stars, adding "I told them they were good enough to win the world cup. They gave off their best and I believe every one was impressed."
The President said as a sportsman himself, he knew the importance of being motivated before a game, and he did just that for the Ghanaian team before their match with Serbia.
President Mills said the victory of the Black Stars in their first match would definitely encourage and urge them on to achieve more for the country. The pending match between the Black Stars of Ghana and their Australian counterparts on Saturday June 19, 2010, would be a major factor in determining their qualification for the second round of the tournament.
