President addresses durbar at Eguafo

Eguafo, (C/R) Aug. 13, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Friday said the government would not be daunted by the task ahead but endeavour to put the country's socio-economic development on a sound footing.

"The task ahead for development is difficult but the government is determined to restore the dignity of the Ghanaian to take up the mantle of development." he added.

President Kufuor made the pledge when addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of the Eguafu Traditional area in the Komenda-Edena tour of the Central Region.

He said the dignity of the Ghanaian would be restored with the goodwill being enjoyed within the international community towards Ghana's development.

Presiding Kufuor said this was a serious government that would leave legacy for Ghanaians adding with effective planning hard work and the commitment of the people our toil will be rewarded with marine development in the country after our tenure of office."

President Kufuor appealed to Ghanaians to allow democracy and uphold the rule of law to prevail in the country to give room for all and sundry to express their view freely without intimidation and give meaning to Ghana's motto of freedom and justice.

He briefed the people about Ghana's debt cancellation of four billion dollars by the G8, multi-donor partners and the millennium challenge account MCA of 290 million dollars to modernise agriculture in Ghana.

President Kufuor said Elmina, together with three other communities and towns would benefit from a new programme to build a fishing harbour. The three other towns are Axim, Mumford and James Town in Accra. President Kufuor pledged a school bus and construction of a hostel for the Eguafo-Abream senior secondary school which is an agricultural- oriented educational institution.

Nana Kwamina Ansah IV, Eguafohene and President of the Central Region House of Chiefs appealed to the government to build a fishing harbour at Elmina, improve on tourist attractions in the district and provide a bus and hostel for the Eguafo-Abream Senior Secondary School.
