President breaks ground for construction of Suhum-Asamankese road

Anum Apapam, June 4, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills on Friday broke the ground for the construction of the Suhum-Asamankese road, to be undertaken by two different contractors.

The project, which would cost GHC10.5 million would be funded by the Government of Ghana and expected to be completed within 18 months. The 33.8 kilometers stretch of road, linking the Eastern Region to the Central Region, has been in a deplorable state for so some time now. drivers who use the road charge exorbitant fares. The road saw major rehabilitation in 1995 and the current project that would be undertaken by Muudu Construction Limited and Messers Naggestine Limited and would be executed in two phases.

President Mills performed the ground breaking ceremony after addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Anum Apapam as part of his tour of the Eastern Region. He said the road is important for the people in the area and the Regio= n in general. President Mills said it was against that backdrop that when the Nationa= l Democratic Congress (NDC) took over the administration of the country, it decided to solicit funding for money to reconstruct the road. He reiterated the Government's determination to look for money to construct all unmotorable roads across the country. President Mills said the better Ghana agenda of the NDC was intended to improve the lives of the people throughout the country as promised during electioneering in 2008
