Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has criticized the president and his team over the little time they gave journalists for questioning at Tuesday’s encounter with the press.

According to the outspoken member of the leading opposition Party, the president and his team made it known from the start of the program that the president had other engagements hence the duration and number of questions were going to be restricted.

Speaking on Agoo tv’s local breakfast show with Obaasima Serwaa Akoto, Hon Okudjeto explained it was not fair for the president and his team to invite Journalist from all the regions only to tell them they were going to be given a limited time and number of questions to ask.

“ I closely monitored proceedings and I had the impression that the president and his team had no time for the program because the minister of information made it known the president had other official engagements he needed to attend to. Why do you invite journalists from across the country to tell them you have limited time to answer their questions?” He said.

The North Tongu legislator said the program had already been postponed twice prior to last Wednesday’s encounter hence there was no reason why they had to rush the program and not allow for journalists to freely ask their questions.

Hon. Ablakwa added encounters like that were part of every democratic dispensation and it was an opportunity for persons who have been trusted with power to Account to citizens through the media.

According to him, “the one question and no follow up” structure was not the best because it did not provide journalist the opportunity to seek clarity anytime the president did not answer a question to satisfaction.
