President makes 120 million cedis personal donation

Nkoranza (B/A) June 28, GNA - Nana Kwabena Ohene Tetteh, Nifahene of Nkoranza Traditional Area and Chief of Sessiman, a suburb of Nkoranza, has commended President Kufour for his personal donation of 120 million cedis in support of the area's efforts to check inter-soil erosion, which had led to the collapse of many houses in the area. The President's donation was made through Mr. Nicholas Adjei Danso, a citizen of Sessiman and a businessman based at Tema. Nana Tetteh was addressing the community at a forum to discuss plans with regard to the award of the Disaster Management Project on contract to experts to check the erosion and to find a lasting solution to the problem.

He said the donation from the President had shown the love that he has for all Ghanaians, irrespective of origin, adding such attitude showed good leadership.


Nana Tetteh expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South, Mr Kwame Amporfo-Twumasi, who is Deputy Minister of Education and Sports, for donating 15 million cedis towards the project.


Nana Tetteh commended his people for their unity and cooperative spirit as they organised themselves to mobilise resources to promote the development of the community and urged them to maintain such spirit.

Mr. Thomas Adu-Appiah, Assembly Member, paid special tribute to the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Abraham Dwona Odum, for attending the fund raising rally and also donating three million cedis and 200 bags of cement in support of the project. He praised the 13-member Planning Committee for the success of the fund-raising rally, which bagged about 224 million cedis and appealed to the District Chief Executive, Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, to liaise with technical experts and engineers to help control erosion in the area.


The Assembly Member expressed gratitude to Mr. Adjei Danso, a non-resident citizen who donated 80 million cedis towards the project and urged other citizens to assist.


Mr. George Obeng Boateng, an opinion leader, called on the government to provide the people with tractors and necessary farming implements to boost maize production in the area.
