Accra, Aug. 5, GNA - The President of the American Field Services (AFS), Mr Francisco Cazal has commended past participants in the AFS programme for the positive impact they had made in the Ghanaian society since its introduction in Ghana.

He said Ghana was one of the countries in Africa that had ensured that the programme benefited participants from diverse cultural backgrounds across the country.

Mr Cazal said these when he arrived in Accra for a three-day working visit during which he would interact with government officials, volunteers of the programme as well as past participants. He said the concept of the programme was to ensure that students in their formative years were exposed to cross-cultural activities in order to broaden their knowledge and also enable them to brace themselves up for the future.

Mr Cazal said it was encouraging to observe that the number of Ghanaians now in responsible positions benefited from the programme and were now imparting it.

While in the country, Mr Cazal would pay a courtesy call on President John Agyekum Kufuor, officials of the educational sector, some community leaders in three regions as well as host parents. Mr Philip Addison, Chairman of the Board of AFS in Ghana, Mr Joe Baidoe-Ansah, Member of Parliament and past participant and Mr Emma Annan, Programme Officer of AFS met Mr Cazal on attival at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
