President off to South Africa

Mr. J.A. Kufuor the President of Ghana left Accra at dawn yesterday for Durban, South Africa to attend the World Economic Summit.

The two day summit will discuss economic integration , technological advancement and the future of Africa, application of information technology for accelerated development, international trade and Africa 's access to international market and the HIV?AIDS pandemic.

The summit being hosted by the South African President ,Mr. Thabo Mbeki , will be attended by eight African political leaders mostly from southern Africa.

Here will be a round table discussion by the African Leaders Briefing newsmen in Accra, Mr. Kwabena Agyapong, Deputy Government Spokesperson, said President Kufuor has been invited by President Mbeki.

He said while in Durban , Mr. Kufuor will hold bilateral talks with the South African President in an effort to improve trade and rectify the balance of trade problems between the two countries.

He said issues about good governance, democracy , stability and conflict in Africa will also feature in the discussions.

Officials of the World Bank , the International Monetary Fund and the World Economic Forum will also attend the summit Mr. Agyapong said President Kufuor will be accompanied by Mr. J. H. Mensah, Minster and Leader of Government Business and Mr. Hackman -Owusu Agyeman, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
