The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Paapa Owusu-Ankomah, has said that the nomination of Justice George Kingsley Acquah as the Chief Justice (CJ) is in the best interest of the nation.

According to him, in nominating him for Parliament’s consideration, the President took cognizance of a number of factors, including the criteria prescribed in the Constitution and the government’s vision in transforming the judiciary into a modern institution, the principles of accountability, openness and the competence of the nominee.

“Besides, Parliament has the final authority as to whether or not Justice Acquah should succeed the retired Chief Justice, Justice Edward K. Wiredu,” he explained.

He was speaking to Daily Graphic in an interview in Accra.
