I was teribly engaged somewhere. Far from home, where I could watch the maiden media encounter by H. E. Nana Akofu Addo. But comments on Facebook lured me and I got closer to where I had the chance to view the "drama".

Alas! It was nearing its end. A stage the information minister christened - "Questions Time". It appears I was very fortunate.

Because this is the part most loved by a section of Ghanaians. Where majority of the citizenry had interest in. As for the first part, it was only a rendition of the president's campaign promises.

I read somewhere that goes like, "the president’s meeting with some handpicked journalists Tuesday was a failed attempt to hawk what isn’t there and journalists completed that."

And I was like, "kaman how?" According to the writer whom I quoted above, the journalists marred the show which the president wanted to use as a springboard to launch his government.

But it appears his wings were angrily clipped by his own creation, the invited media persons.

The questions asked by the journalists were expected, yet unprepared for. Wasn't it clear that the noninclusion of certain media houses in the list was a smart way of avoiding what he finally met unprepared?

The president wanted to be treated with kid-gloves by the representatives of the invited media houses. But some of them were very adamant in doing what was expected of them by the Ghanaian populace.

They dealt the president with the questions until he was dazed. And resorted to the Captain Planet and the Planeteers style. Combining their powers to conquer. Yet, emerged unsuccessful and weak.

Those who were lucky to have lived in the early days of the 90s know what I am talking about. And those who were not, "Captain Planet and the Planeteers" is an American animated environmentalist television program. In this cartoon series, Gaia , the spirit of the planet, sends five magic rings, four with the power to control an element of nature and one controlling the element of Heart, to five chosen youths across the globe: these five are dubbed the Planeteers and are tasked with helping defend the planet from environmental disasters and making efforts to educate humankind to keep others from happening.

In situations that the Planeteers cannot resolve alone, they can combine their powers to summon Captain Planet, a super hero, who possesses all of their powers magnified, symbolising the premise that the combined efforts of a team are stronger than its individual parts. And President Nana Addo and his team did same.

Unlike Captain Planet and the Planeteers, they couldn't conquer. But were conquered.
