Odumase-Krobo (ER), Aug. 26, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufour, has pledged his support to all national efforts geared towards the upbringing of children who have lost their parents through the AIDS pandemic. In a speech read on his behalf, by Mrs Gladys Asmah, the Minister of Women and Children's Affairs, at Odumase- Krobo in the Eastern Region, the President said, his Government was ready to support private initiatives to provide succour and shelter for such children. Mrs Asmah was interacting with 176 AIDS Orphans, made up of 95 boys and 81 girls. She commended the Rev. Felix Anyasor and the Krobo Queenmothers Association for their pioneering role in giving support for the orphans.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Andrews Teye, appealed to central government to consider establishing a foster home for the orphans. Supported by Madam Marilyn Amponsah, Executive Secretary of the Ghana National Commission on Children, Mrs Asmah later donated gifts to the orphans.
