Presidential Jet Is Kufuor's Legacy -MP

Hon. K.T. Hammond, Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region has stated that Ghanaians will always remember President John Agyekum Kufuor for purchasing a Presidential Jet for the country.

The largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sternly castigated the government ever since it made known its intention to purchase a Presidential Jet. To the NDC, the country was not in a position to own a presidential aeroplane, hence government should rescind its decision outright.


But considering that President Kufuor would leave office before the completion of the jet, the Deputy Interior Minister emphatically said “the Presidential Jet will be Kufuor’s legacy”.


He described President Kufuor as a perfect and selfless President who though would be leaving office soon, had the vision to buy the jet to help ease the activities of his successor. Hon. Hammond also commended the President for building the Presidential Palace, which would as well be completed in the next two to three years, by which time the President would have exhausted his time in office.


He contended that instead of castigating the President, Ghanaians should rather idolize him for his altruistic gesture, adding the populace should also be grateful to the President for leading the country to affluence within a spate of seven years. The former Energy Minister boldly predicted one touch victory for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming polls, and stressed that none of the opposition parties had what it takes to unseat the NPP government.

Considering the good works of the government, Hon. Hammond, who spoke with Daily Guide in an exclusive interview, confidently stated that come what may, the NPP would emerge victorious in the general elections. “The socio-economic base of the country has improved considerably since the NPP government took the helm of affairs of the country in 2001. “New schools, roads, hospitals and indeed the livelihoods of every Ghanaian are improving at a fast rate as compared to the NPP’s days in opposition. “More importantly, the rule of law and freedom of speech which was not common in the days of the NDC is now the order of the day, and all these are ample proof that come what may the electorate, as discerning as they are, will retain the NPP in power to continue its excellent works.”


The Deputy Interior Minister reiterated his high hopes that the NPP would win a first round victory, rubbishing reports that the elections might be decided in the second round.


“None of the parties can stand the NPP; our good works are our trump-card for recording a resounding first round victory in the coming polls,” he averred.


Hon. Hammond, who is contesting for the Adansi Asokwa NPP parliamentary seat, also predicted one touch victory for himself in the constituency primary of the party. Beaming with buoyancy, he said he had done all that was expected of him as MP and was hopeful that the delegates of the party would give him their mandate to continue with his good works for both the party and the constituency.
