The Presiding Member (PM) for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Hon. Abraham Boadi has bemoaned over the state at which Ashanti Region is lagging behind in terms of development due to misappropriation of MPs Common Fund.
According to him, some Members of Parliament in the region are ‘diverting’ the purpose of their common funds that are meant for developmental projects in their constituencies for their own interest.
Speaking to otecfmghana.com on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 Hon. Boadi, who is the assembly member for Nhyiaeso Electoral Area, said the Assemblies are doing their best in developing the region but the issue of ‘party politics’ is seriously affecting the work of the assemblies, and in effect, affecting the development of the region.
“We are complaining of poor road network, inadequate materials in our various hospitals, some schools are in a deplorable state, what are the school common funds is used for?” he quizzed.
“Why should we not concern ourselves about the development of the region when the MPs are using them for their own interests, while the region is lagging behind developments? They were complaining of the delay of the common funds, now that the funds are in, what are they using them for,” Hon. Boadi bemoaned.
Hon. Boadi, also known as Opooman, indicated that if the MPs change their attitudes, the region will see more developments than what we are experiencing now, and beyond the expectations of the people in the region.
“We can do better than what we are doing, is a matter of attitudinal change and promoting the interest of the region with their common funds,” he added.
