PRESS RELEASE
WORLD AIDS DAY AND ELECTIONS 2004
Most countries in the Sub-Sahara Africa have escalated HIV/AIDS situation, which is contributed mostly by poverty and conflicts, which resulted from political, tribal and religious intolerance. We as a nation face a grater challenge in moving our nation forward with our growing democratization coupled with HIV/AIDS pandemic. In the situation of Tema Municipality, as at December 2003, 6,600 HIV/AIDS cases had been recorded at the Tema General Hospital whiles 299 cases were recorded between January and June 2004. Tema is currently leading the Greater Accra Region and HIV/AIDS now tops the first 10 illnesses reported at the hospital and HIV/AIDS is now the leading cause of death, having overtaken stroke, malaria and other common illnesses. The youth constitute the highest age group affected. (Source: - Tema General Hospital)
Our growing HIV/AIDS situation resulted from antecedents, which does not include conflict and wars within our borders but that of other countries, which are experiencing or experienced, conflict and war situation. The influx of conflict and refugee environment within the Sub-Sahara Africa, which resulted from electoral disputes, should be seen as a major threat to the development of Ghana especially within this dispensation. As we celebrate World AIDS Day, today, and also prepare for elections come Tuesday, December 7, we should not forget that the development of the nation depends on our collective efforts in securing a peaceful environment of accelerated growth. We should not forget that all forms of conflict are anti development vices, result into shedding of blood and HIV is transmitted through blood. A small knife or bullet wound may serve as a channel for HIV transmission. The cost of peace not is readily known but the cost of conflict and refugee situation, coupled with HIV/AIDS, is the total collapse of all that we have worked for with our strength and sweat.
Our independence will be meaningless unless it is linked to the total liberation of the people of Ghana from all forms of oppressions, nepotism, and evil ordinances set against the development of our dear nation. We should enjoin our forces to be vigilant in observing that every aspect of this year?s election is free and fair from all conflict tendencies. We should ensure that the coming election would unite us as a unified front in taking the development of our nation forward especially in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We should avoid stigmatizing our political opponent and persons affected by HIV/AIDS. We are all of a common nation with a common interest in moving the development of our nation forward, it only happened that we are not with the same political ideologies and interest.
As we celebrate World AIDS Day, we should pledge ourselves to be ambassadors for change in behavioural and attitudinal culture of the nation. Just as your vote counts in determining who get elected so should also know, that, your little effort is a solution to our HIV/AIDS situation. The peace, development and HIV/AIDS management lies in the palms of our hands. We should all put our hands to work, singing; ?this is the only nation called Ghana and we are the only people called Ghanaians?. There is no other place like home and we are the people to make Ghana our home.
Come December 7, vote but vote in peace, knowing that the way and manner you would vote would determine the destiny of our nation especially its development and HIV/AIDS management. I am calling on all the youth especially those within the Tema West Constituency to abstain from the tentacles that spread or aid the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Vote and vote Kenneth Nana Amoateng as Member of Parliament for Tema West Constituency to uniting our strength for development.
Thank you

PRESS RELEASE
I am very impressed with the number of youth who are contesting as independent Parliamentary candidates for the forth coming Parliamentary elections. I an encuraging my collegue youthful independent candidates and any other youth who indend to part of decission making organs at every level to have the zeal and tenacity to get there inspite of all confronting challenges and difficulties. I am also encouraging Ghanaians to have courage in the youth and vote them into office.
It is quite unfortunate that whiles the youth are pushing forward into the political arena especially as independent candidates, a lot of negative ordinaces are perpertuated against them. Leading members of leading political partices in the Tema West Constituency are propagating lies that, I, Kenneth Nana Amoateng, have been offered a huge sum of money to step down as a candidate and I have obligded. I am assuring all my faithful supporters that, I, Kenneth Nana Amoateng, do not intend to step down and I will not do that. I will push on till I am elected.
It is also unfortunate that certien neglected projects within the Tema West Constituency of which I have talk about in my campaign have now been rushed through by incumbent action. I only hope and pray that these projects would be executed with profecency since it is the tax payers money that is being invested. The questions I would ask about these projects are:
1. were these projects slated for these time whille the noble people of the constituency have suffered the reprecurssions of the neglect? 2. Were the projects passed through the necessary processes and proceduaries? 3. Do the expenditure of these projects tally with the initial budgets?
I emplore all Ghanaians especially the youth to be peace-seeking but vigilant with opened eyes, mind and mouth on all issues pertainning to the development of Ghana. We should unite our strenght for development. Vote wisely, vote for Kenneth Nana Amoateng for Tema West Constituency
Thank you
